Fun Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day & the Month of February
During the month of February, you can make learning fun using a variety of games and activities for kids. Choose from simple crafts, stations, partner games, celebrations, and morning worksheets.
Here are some great ideas to get you started:
Make and Give Cards – Set up a writing station with red, purple, and pink paper, stickers, and writing materials. Let the kids get creative by cutting, pasting, and writing love letters and cards to family and friends.
Create Valentine’s Day Mailboxes – Before Valentine’ day, invite students to create their own mailbox to receive their Valentines. Use brown paper bags, shoeboxes, or another large container. Have them decorate with paper, marker, paint, and glitter (if you dare).
Create Heart Pockets – These cute, simple heart pockets will hold small Valentine’s cards that students pass out. You can make them as large or small as you’d like, and the materials needed are most likely already at your school! All you need is paper, a hole puncher, and some yarn.
Have a party – If your school allows, throw a Valentine’s Day party! Ask parents to donate fun snacks and volunteer during centers or rotations. Let students pass out their treats and participate in some fun games. Look below for ideas!
Valentine’s Day Books – Books are a must for every holiday! Here are some great children’s book titles we love to read in February.
- Arthur’s Valentine
- The Love Letter
- The Mystery of the Love List
- All We Need is Love and a Really Soft Pillow
- Love Splat

“If I Were Cupid” Writing Prompt & Header
For this activity, students color their little cupid and write about what they would do as cupid. Give them simple ideas to run with, such as, “If I were Cupid, I would spread kindness at my school.”
“I Love to Be Me” Book
Kids love writing and drawing things they love about themselves and others. Valentine’s Day is about showing love to others, but we also need to remember to love ourselves. Get kids started with things they love to do using this writing and craft activity.
Candy Heart Measurement Math Activity
Kids use the prepared cards to measure objects using Candy Hearts. This is a fun way to practice non-standard measurement without a ruler. Then they use the recording sheet to color how many Candy Hearts long each item is.
Valentine Love Potion Science Experiment
This baking soda and vinegar experiment will make students go “ooh” and “ahh” as they watch the chemical reaction. Don’t forget to add pretty glitter and other items so it’s Valentine’s themed! Kids will hypothesize and record their findings on the recording sheet.
Candy Heart Stack Activity
Kids work independently or together to build the tallest Candy Hearts Tower! Tell them to make predictions before starting and discuss what they can do differently afterward. Let them try multiple times to see how they can progress or have a timed race.
Love Monster Directed Drawing
This simple drawing activity has students practicing fine motor skills and following directions. Once finished, they will have an adorable Love Monster Valentine’s Day drawing to show off. Hang them on a bulletin board or classroom door for February decor, or send them home to share with families.
Hat Craft Activity
This isn’t your typical hat! Students get to add their favorite Valentine’s Day activities to the hat with the provided templates. Kids color their favorite activities and glue them to their hats. Then, they wear them and share their likes with friends.
Love Bugs Heart Craft
Use the heart-shaped templates to create a Valentine’s Day butterfly kids will be proud of. Simply print the pieces, cut them out, and let the kids assemble and decorate. We love using different colors, so our bulletin board pops!
Classroom Games
Valentine’s Day Charades
Students take turns picking cards and acting out the scenes to one another. This is a great whole-group activity during a classroom party. Divide the class into groups to work together or take turns.
Valentine’s Day BINGO
Print the playing cards and play BINGO using red, purple, and pink-themed cards. Play as a whole class or place the game in a literacy rotation for kids to use with their peers.
