Personally, I’m kind of in the same boat as you. When I first heard about this puzzle I said to myself “there is zero reason for me to participate” Because I knew that A: the reward would be disappointing considering the effort involved B: I likely couldn’t make a meaningful contribution to the solving of the puzzle, so no “feels good” reward either. I don’t know what people expected honestly? Even if OG mythoclast were to be the reward it wouldn’t satisfy everyone. That said, this was way too anticlimactic IMO, I would rate this 20% community fail 80% bungie game design fail. I mean,, weeklong hyper complex puzzle? Cool here’s an exotic you will forget about in two weeks.... lol This puzzle would have been much better suited to announce a new activity, or to bring about a unique gear set or something....Bungie would have been better off either improving the reward or toning down the puzzle complexity...

Bungie’s failure is simply this:There are game-play motivated gamers, and then there are loot-motivated players.Game- play motivated players get most of their satisfaction from the simple act of playing the game. Loot-motivated player mainly enjoy the rush of getting the game’s reward. Some may not even particularly enjoy playing the game. For game play motivated players, the process of solving the puzzle itself was the fun...and it’s for these players that Bungie made this. The problem is that, by six days NOTHING was going to be a good enough reward for the loot motivated players. Because no reeard was going to be able to match their level of excitement. But Bungie had no way of knowing that going in. Especially as they did everything possible to keep the level of hype DOWN.They said nothing about this quest. All they did was put a date on a calendar. A. Date we didn’t even know related time the quest until it was OVER.At some point this community needs to stop holding Bungie responsible for their emotions. Otherwise this will go on forever. But that is clearly not going to happen today...

Is it truly impossible for bungie to balance their design amongst the loot Incentivized and the gameplay incentivized players?

In most cases no.But when you plan something on THIS scale....and you let people emotionally simmmer for six days while they endlessly speculate on what they're going to get...and they expect a reward to match their level of "hype"?Yes, its impossible. Which is why I say this trainwreck coming after Day Two. Because the game didn't HAVE any rewards that could match that level of excitment.....and they only rewards that would have been up to the challenge would have been to pull something from D1. Which would have caused the Recycled Content trolls to lose their -blam!-ing minds. And all this, about a quest that Bungie said NOTHING about. All they did was put a date and a picture on the Roadmap. So---until this community gains some INSIGHT into their role in the creation of this mess----its not possible. Bungie's only solution is to either STOP making community events of this size-and-scope to avoid pissing off the loot-motivated part of the community.........or keep making them, and accept pissing these players off is just the price of admission.

Amen, Kelly Green! I love this game because of the way it feels, and consistent adjustments keeps things fresh. Sometimes things are easy, sometimes they are hard, sometimes I’ll stay up 20 hours at a time transcribing line after line trying to interpret dizzying symbols sprouted from a hexagon. I didn’t know what I’d be getting and I didn’t care, because this is the game I like to play. Every update has something new to look for, whether it’s some cool visuals in the tower or Easter eggs laid about lost sectors and levels. I feel like I’m always finding something new, doesn’t matter if it’s been “discovered” as long as it’s new to me and piques my love for adventure and the unknown.
